CEFR Framework
Six Levels of German Proficiency
Beginner
A1 — Beginner
Develop a foundational understanding of the German language. Use familiar greetings, introduce yourself, and write simple sentences. The A1 syllabus builds the core framework for all future communication.
Elementary
A2 — Elementary
Understand more complex sentences and communicate in greater detail. Comprehend everyday materials such as brochures, emails, and spoken German in day-to-day situations.
Intermediate
B1 — Intermediate
Hold confident conversations on a wide range of topics — work, leisure, and daily life. Read and understand moderately complex texts including news articles, short stories, and business documents.
Upper Intermediate
B2 — Upper Intermediate
Understand complex standard input on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in your field. Engage fluently with native speakers and write detailed, well-structured texts.
Advanced
C1 — Advanced
Understand complex, longer texts and recognise implicit meaning. Express yourself spontaneously, fluently, and precisely — and translate between German and your native language with ease.
Proficient
C2 — Proficient (Mastery)
The highest CEFR level — representing full mastery of the German language. C2 reflects near-native fluency and is considered extremely challenging to achieve. Our trainers are C1-level certified professionals.
